On its system status page for developers, Apple confirmed that an issue with the notarization service from 3 PM to 5:09 PM ET has been resolved. We’ve contacted Apple to see if there’s any details on exactly what happened, but have not received a response yet.

The issue appears to be resolved now, but as TechCrunch points out, it’s possible the servers were overloaded as people updated to Big Sur and suddenly flooded it with requests to reauthorize older apps.

Mac and iOS developer Jeff Johnson confirmed the OS was having problems connecting to an Apple server, and that blocking it by editing the hosts file solved the problem. The system arrived as a part of the Mountain Lion 10.8 release in 2012.

The problems existed whether they had updated to the new Big Sur macOS release or not, and based on some testing, it appears the issue tied back to Apple’s Gatekeeper technology that detects whether or not software is safe to use. I've been on hold with Apple support for the past 2 hours. For about a half hour or so starting at 4PM ET, Mac users worldwide who tried to open up third-party apps were suddenly noticing weird issues and slow launches, with the software just bouncing in their dock for minutes or failing to launch entirely.

So there is no way for me to unlock my phone. My phone is registered under the non-developer account. One is a developer account and the other is not. Unfortunately for me, I have two Apple ID's. Plug phone into computer and restore through iTunes.Īlso, you cannot backup your phone while it is in this deactivated state. Release the Home button when you see the iTunes logo and the connector below it. Release the Power button but keep holding the Home button However, you can only restore if you place your phone in restore mode by doing the following: Hold the Power and Home buttons until the phone reboots and you see the Apple logo. If you were one of the people that paid for a slot, your only option is to restore. They just now deactivated all iPhones running the iOS 7 beta, and the only way to reactivate them is to reactivate them using a developer account. In order to get access to the iOS 7 beta, developers often sell "slots" on their developer accounts and allow people to get the beta for a fee, usually about 5 dollars. It may be worth to wait an hour or so to see if the activation lets you through after a while (if Apple's servers are really the issue). Some people say to keep retrying as Apple's servers are currently being hammered with requests. What I am going to try (which will work if you have a backup) is to factory reset the iPhone and restore to a previous backup (see point 4 in the first section). I've tried to restore my iPhone by clicking on the Restore iPhone button, but I get this message instead: IPA on this phone), but I get this message:

I've tried to update my iPhone (it was up to date, but just in case as I put the first beta. When connecting my iPhone 4 to iTunes, I get this message: This Apple support thread says you need to restore the phone to a previous backup, from a fresh factory reset. Note that you need an Apple Developer account to see both these links.
